FOREWORD
A smart martial arts industry responds to economic and social change. A smart sport and recreation industry provides students and workers with skills that will maximise their employment and career path opportunities by meeting the evolving needs of its key industries.
These range from the martial arts industry as we know it to sport coaching, sport and recreation and fitness industries which must update and innovate to remain competitive in a rapidly changing, hi-tech world economy.
The International College of Kenshusei’s new SmartSKILL strategy represents a major commitment to the alignment of training opportunities for the current and future martial arts workforce. It recognises the growing need for a higher-skilled instructors, staff and workforce in all sectors of sport and recreation and in particular the martial arts industry.
This strategy will have a significant impact on the future of the martial arts industry. On an individual level it will expand career opportunities and improve job and professional security. Specific strategies will target new students to the industry and in particular the unemployed. On a business level it will up-skill existing instructors to the new national standard. On a community level it will help guarantee the prosperity of the industries that play a major or minor role in the communities economy.
SmartSKILL will provide the martial arts industry with an unprecedented opportunity to groom a highly skilled workforce. Such a workforce will position the industry at the forefront of international standards and generate the kind of economic growth which will lead to even higher employment and professional opportunities for its up and coming stakeholders.
Priority TRAINING
FOR THE MARTIAL ARTS INDUSTRY
SmartSKILL is the strategy of the registered training organisation the “International College of Kenshusei” (ICK). The strategy is to target the power of its strong and vibrant training qualifications program squarely at skill needs of the martial arts industry.
- Martial arts practitioners will have unprecedented access to individualised training pathways that will give them the skills and qualifications, needed by the martial arts and health and fitness industries, in the shortest possible time. – matching the highly skilled and committed instructors that belong to the ICK network.
- Martial arts and health and fitness’s new and growing high tech industries, will have access to a highly skilled workforce that will help them keep one step ahead of their competitors. In turn these industry sectors will generate more career path opportunities and economic benefits for all industry stakeholders.
- The “current” martial arts industry, central to ICK’s professional growth will be supported to up-grade the current skills base to take advantage of technological improvements and emerging development opportunities. The “current” industry includes all traditional and non traditional martial arts systems including but not limited to, aikido, boxing, brazilian ju jitsu, hapkido, ju jitsu, eskrima, judo, ju jitsu, karate, kickboxing, kung fu, muay thai, qigong, taekwondo, kempo, kendo, wu shu…..
SmartSKILL is an ongoing industry partnership arrangement that will continually seek cutting edge training methods to ensure the training process for students is informative, yet, enjoyable and motivating.
The International College of Kenshusei via SmartSKILL will continue to create partnership strategies with industry and significantly increase access by industry clients to our world class vocational education and training systems.
The strategy will provide flexible and responsive training that encourages accelerated skill development. It will support martial artist’s and coaches seeking to upgrade their skills, particularly in areas affected by legislative change.
Central to the SmartSKILL vision, the strategy will ensure that the martial arts industry, delivers higher, more technically-advanced qualifications at the Certificates III, IV and Diploma levels.

TO THE MARTIAL ARTS INDUSTRY
In a rapidly changing industry, it is essential for martial arts students to have access to accurate and up-to-date information on career pathways and professional opportunities.
The International College of Kenshusei via SmartSKILL will harness the working capacity of all participating martial artists, by providing access to advice and support on gaining the skills required by the key industries and ensuring that the existing skills and experience of our industry practitioners are formally recognised.
MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES
The International College of Kenshusei via SmartSKILL will provide a revolutionary new integrated learning experience in association with carefully selected martial art schools and organisations.
The initiative will offer participants the opportunity to train in their chosen martial art system under a customised training regime called SmartSKILL. The SmartSKILL program will allow participation in the physical martial art requirements, theoretical and/or on-line home-study, physical home training and face to face interactive workshops.
To gain access to this and other ICK programs, you must first complete the New Horizons program for senior instructors.
