Martial arts based vocational education and training for schools
Skills for Life is a revolutionary new school based training and education program for secondary school students. Skills for Life is fast changing the way we look at how education and training is delivered in schools across Australia. The program integrates the teaching of traditional martial arts together with nationally recognized vocation and education subjects that lead towards credits for the student’s year 11 and 12.
The benefits of this integrated approach means students are able to physically train in the martial arts whilst at the same time be trained face to face and undertake a study regime educating the student in modules such as exercise science (anatomy, physiology, biomechanics), career path development, martial arts industry, communication and presentation. One of the most important features of this unique program is the training and education the student receives via the martial arts in relation to community virtues and values. |
These community virtues and values are so often by-passed in education and training today and include such important qualities as the concept of continuous improvement, respect, loyalty, gratitude and honor. The martial arts is a perfect medium to be able to present these topics as it is delivered in an exciting, motivating and rewarding environment to the student.
The program
Practical training: - Students are trained one lesson per week (min) in the physical aspects of martial arts, (styles available include, Karate, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Kung-fu, Tai-chi) and will undergo regular grade (belt) testing, usually at the end of each school term. The student has a resposibility to maintain and improve their physical skills throughout the duration of the course and will be monitored closely by the instructor to ensure the necesary skills are attained prior to testing.
Theory training: - Students undertake theory study via the exclusive "Kenshusei Skills for Life" training resources and workbooks. This study is conducted at school under the supervision of a school VET superviser. The International College of Kenshusei will make monthly visits or at the request of the school to conduct theoretical tutorials.
Home training: - Students are issued with the Kenshusei training journal. Completion of the journal activities and practical training program contribute towards the final training outcome. |
